Swinburne Law Students’ Society

Explore, Engage, Excel

Welcome to the Swinburne Law Student's Society – your gateway to excellence in legal education at Swinburne University since 2015.

Distinguished by a commitment to intellectual property law, the Swinburne LLB program stands out with an extensive array of electives in this specialised field. Our academic offerings align with Swinburne's forward-thinking and practical approach, reflecting our anticipation of the dynamic and evolving landscape of the legal profession.

Over the years, the SLSS has been a dedicated supporter of our students, fostering a community that thrives on shared knowledge and collaboration. With the invaluable support of our sponsors, we have created a platform for growth, learning, and professional development.

As we step into 2024, the SLSS is excited to embark on a new chapter. Our focus is on expanding networks and offerings to provide our students with even more opportunities for enrichment, connection, and success.

Join us in this journey as we continue to shape the future of legal education at Swinburne.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Swinburne Law Students’ Society acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Swinburne Law School sits, and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded, it always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.

As members of the wider law community, we acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders experience an extremely disproportionate rate of incarceration and contact with the criminal justice system. We continue to challenge the constructs of racism that precipitate this reality.

Statement Against Sexual Harassment

Throughout the 2020/2021 term, the President’s of each Victorian Law Societies’ formed a ‘Sexual Harassment Working Group’. This group was made up of representatives from each LSS/LSA and have worked towards creating a space in which the issue of inappropriate sexual behaviour in the legal sector could be discussed and initiatives to address this issue could be created.

In 2021, as a collective, we are releasing the attached mission statement as the first step in our ongoing commitment to actively work to address the issue of sexual harassment within our student cohorts, at our universities, and in our profession.

At the SLSS you can contact us to learn more about this initiative and working group. Reach out if there is anything you feel the SLSS could do to support students around the issue of sexual harassment.
